Wolfsburg is an easy town to get to. Right on the train line between many major German cities, whether you are an auto enthusiast, or are picking up a new car, making a visit to the Autostadt is an experience on its own. Wolfsburg While historically, Wolfsburg has been around for a long time, Wolfsburg was founded by the Nazis as a planned city to build the peoples car, the Beetle, that Hitler had been working on with Ferdinand Porsche. Once WW2 started, it was converted to build military equipment using POWs and slave labor. After WW2 the British came in, renamed the town Wolfsburg and helped the Germans to start producing the Beetle and the town was truly born. There is not really anything to see in Wolfsburg, the main attraction is the Autostadt. website has opening times but isn't the best. Once you get there, buy your tickets for the day and a tour of the VW factory. The tour is amazing and is a must see. They are timed tickets based on language. Make sure that you buy tickets to the Car Towers, the website says that you can buy the at the welcome center where you get the other tickets. This must have changed because I had to basically run to the Car Towers to buy tickets and it was sold out. Once you have your tickets in order, and depending on time, head into the Zeithaus Museum. A Note about Volkswagen Volkswagen is now the world's largest car maker, and it is not because they sell just Volkswagens. They own many different car makers which makes your experience at the Autostadt even better. Volkswagen makes cars under the Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, SEAT, Škoda and Volkswagen name as well as owns the Ducati motorcycle brand. So when you go to the Autostadt, you are not only going to see VW cars, but all of the other brands that they make. Zeithaus Museum This museum is one of the greatest car museums I have ever been to. Especially if you like European and German cars. With many classic cars that features more than just VW as well as showing many favorite VW cars throughout its history. This is a highlight of the trip. The Grounds The grounds are beautiful at the audostadt. Beautiful gardens, art and many things to do. There are car rides for the kids and you can sign up to drive an off road course. In the grounds you can walk around and see the pavilions and walk to your different tours. It is clearly marked and they give you a nice map. The Pavilions Through out the Autostadt the are pavilions for each car that Volkswagen makes. They are designed architecturally to show off the feeling of the brand. There is lots of information about the car brand in each pavilion and they have the current models in the pavilions. It is very clearly marked and very interesting. Tours There are two big tours that you must take. One is the factory tour. They make the Golf here as well as other cars depending on when you are there. This tour is very secure and there is no photography but it is very interesting. The second tour is the Car Tower Ascent. This takes you into the towers that VW uses to store their newly made cars. It is a ride that takes about 15 minutes. As I said, I got there and it was sold out, but they were nice enough to let me take a look inside. Enjoy your time, you will want to buy a new car after spending time there. The Autostadt The Autostadt can be really crowded. It is the second most visited theme park in all of Europe. Get there when it opens. Their
