Pisa is in Tuscany Italy and is an easy half day trip from Florence. If you are there in summer, you can leave Florence in the afternoon around 2 or 3 and take the train, which takes about an hour and still see the sights in the afternoon. It is even better to see them in the late afternoon because a lot of the tour groups are gone. Besides the main sights, there is nothing much to see and do in Pisa so an overnight is not worth it. Take the train from Florence, walk to the sights and then take a bus or walk back to the train station and you will be back to Florence in time for dinner. When getting off at the train station in Pisa, make sure that you get your bus tickets there or in a tobacco shop and head to Campo dei Miracoli. It is very clear which bus to take. The other thing you can do is walk. While there is not much to see, the Arno River is quite beautiful and makes it worth the thirty minute walk. There is also a small Gothic church called the Santa Maria della Spina right on the river as you walk towards the Leaning Tower. Campo dei Miracoli This is the main sight of Pisa. It is where the Leaning Tower is located but is so much more than just the tower. It is a UNESCO Heritage Site and is remarkable. The Cathedral is located here also called the Duomo in Italian as well as the Baptistery. Make sure that you go into the Cathedral, see the Baptistery and of course the Leaning Tower. The Campo Santo which is a cloistered cemetery, was known to be the most beautiful of all of the monuments in this area, but a grenade destroyed much of the art work during World War Two. You can see some of the saved art and frescoes here and in the museums. After you have seen this area, taken your photos of yourself holding up the tower, that is about it for Pisa. Take the bus back to the train station and head back for a wonderful evening in Florence.
