Anyone who has to either travel for work, or go to work conferences, will have to go to San Antonio at some point. In fact, 20 million people visit San Antonio every year. It is very hot in the summer and has mild winters. There is lots of history, culture and sports. But mostly, a huge convention center and hotel scene that has made San Antonio a top destination for all things conventions.
Where to Stay?
If you are going to the convention center or downtown, I would recommend staying at one of the Riverwalk hotels. They are nice, used to convention goers and there is a lot of restaurants and places to walk around. If you are on an expense account and can stay at a really nice hotel, there is nothing better than the Mokara Hotel, right on the Riverwalk, really nice rooms, a spa and a good restaurant. A nice mid-range hotel and and personal favorite is The Homewood Suites. If you have stayed at a Homewood Suites, then you know exactly what you are getting, it is right on the Riverwalk and they do a nice job there. I would stay again at this place if I have to go to San Antonio. While not exactly on the Riverwalk, it is a close walk to the action the O’Brien hotel is a good option for you budget travel.
What to do?
Remember the Alamo? Well, that is in San Antonio and makes a good break from work. Right in the downtown Alamo is an easy visit and does not take very long to tour it. It is a lot smaller than I imagined so be prepared. The RiverWalk is the most popular sight in San Antonio and is a nice place to unwind. There is a great walk around it, you can go on a boat ride or go into one of the many bars and restaurants. It is a nice break from work. There are four missions you can visit in San Antonio, an art museum and a botanical garden.
Where to eat?
With a ton of restaurants at the Riverwalk, you can do well just staying there. I don’t have a specific restaurant to recommend in San Antonio, make sure you get Mexican food in San Antonio.
Do you have any restaurant suggestions or other suggestions let me know and I will update this post. Hope you make the best of your stay in San Antonio.
