The Tall Ships are large traditionally rigged sail boats. In America there is an organization called Tall Ships of America that does festivals every year, trading locations including the Pacific Coast, Atlantic Coast and the Great Lakes. I had the pleasure of seeing them on the Great Lakes on Lake Superior when they came into Duluth Minnesota which is the largest freshwater sea port in the world. They will be back on the Great Lakes in 2016 and I hope to see them at least one time in Duluth and I hope to see them in another city as well. The festival was quite impressive. Thousands and thousands of people lined the Duluth Harbor waiting for the ships to enter and many other ships were out on the lake welcoming in the tall ships. It took a couple of hours for all of the ships to enter, and it was worth the wait. I recommend getting there nice and early to get a good spot for the ships to come in wherever you plan on seeing them. They estimated that 200,000 people came to see the ships in Duluth in 2013, the last time that Duluth hosted the ships. There is much to do during the Tall Ship festivals. You can tour the ships, get a ticket to go out on the lake on one of the ships, but those are really hard to get. Music, art and plenty of things to buy are all a part of it. But the big thing for sure is the grand arrival. Some of the boats have cannons and had a little sea battle in the harbor. They are reported to come back to Duluth in August of 2016 and there is supposed to be more international ships. You will for sure see me on the banks of the Duluth Harbor welcoming them in.
